Forensics II Fall 08

I will be starting construction of the Jerry Bates 80 inch span F6F Hellcat soon.  Watch this Page! Actually, go here for more information.

The Grumman F6F, as drawn on plans by Jerry Bates

History:  The Grumman F6F first flew on June 26, 1942.  Over the lifespan of the plane, 12,200 were built and this plane had a 19 to 1 kill ratio.  It had the largest wing area of any single engine fighter used by the United States during the Second World War.  As I build this plane, I will provide detailed photographs as I go along and I will describe my trials and tribulations.  Here are the major components I will be using:

Plans: Jerry Bates

Wood: Precision Cut Kits

Engine: Zenoah G62

Retracts: Sierra Giant

Radio: JR 9303

Fiberglass Cloth: CST

Cowl & Canopy: Bob Holman

Paint: It will be painted with latex.  I have purchased the FS color chart from the Government Printing Office for reference and color mixing.
